I have this small problem that can very likely turn into a BIG problem if I don't fix it..So, here it is.

The coloum shifter on my truck (78 F150) is so loose you don't have to pull it toward you to shift gears. It is a C6 auto tranny. How would I go about fixing that and/or even finding the replacement parts? I don't want to be doing 70 down the freeway and accidentally knock her down to 1st gear!

thanks again,
Matt

yes i agree this is a safety related issue also!i appreciate your concern for this problem.dropping the gear selector all the way to low 1 is not as bad as it accidently engaging forward or reverse when not intended! the problem will ly within the gear shift collar & the shift tube.not having any experience with this problem, there could be something else also.both of the items are available through NAPA & HELP! lines for certain year models.
good luck,
Phillip

Matt, I replaced this shift collar myself in my 78 F-150 several years ago, ordered through my local Ford dealer, about $20.00. But I don't know if its still available. Not much of a deal to change as I remember. The collar comes bare metal it will need to be painted, I used a spray can of semi-gloss black paint, you couldn't tell it had ever been touched. Just take your time while doing it & remember where stuff goes.

Matt, DennisCarpenter.com should have new rubbers for your column.
