"Best" Engine Cleaner?

Guys I tried to do a search, but no luck. I would like to clean my motor but don't want to hurt the hoses, metals or the electronics. What do you all recommend? I want something that doesn't leave the alum looking like crap and dull.

most will say Simple Green. That does a good job, but if your block is as greasy as mine, then you'll probably want something more powerfull. There of cousre is engine degreaser at any auto parts store, and I also found some stuff call Gunk Off IIRC, I got it al Lowes in a gallon jug, and i swear it's the same stuff they bottel in air filter cleaning kits. It's in a red and white bottle, and smells just like K&N cleaner. Works great for my general shop clean up, and it cut the built up gunk in my valley pretty good, but I still had to scrub a little.

I really like the "purple" stuff. Castrol used to make it but I believe now it is just called "purple power" or something similar

I use a small pump up sprayer and use that to reach the "hard to reach" areas

Simple Green is the only thing I've used that didn't leave anything 'streaky'. Purple Power and all of the aerosol engine cleaners that auto parts stores carry leave a residue and spots on most plastic and rubber pieces.
