Ford says EGR cooler not part of Emissions Warranty

I just had my EGR cooler replaced under the diesel 5/100 warranty and the service manager showed me his sheet showing that it has a deductible. My warranty book says the emissions warranty on diesel engines is 5/100k has no deductible but only says "EGR SYSTEM" is covered. I argued with a lady at Fords 800 number and she said it falls under the diesel warranty that has a $100 deductible. I say it's part of the "system" and ask what parts are covered? She says she's not a tech and doesn't have that info. So what should i do?

I would say it is part of the emission system. And tampering with it is technically a state and federal no no.

I agree. It's like saying the "radiator" is not part of the "cooling System"...

Ask why the Exhaust Gas Recirulation system was put on a diesel engine in the first place. It is not part of emissions? What does she say it is a part of,the truck runs without it on the motor so how is it a part of powertrain?

I wasn't getting no where with her. She was speaking from her programming but i bet in a court room, it would be other wise "part of the system". That's alot of trouble and more $$$ just to get back my $100. I feel there is someone else I can call but don't know who.

She has a boss, ask her, everyone has a boss to answer to when a problem arises. The cooler plays an important part to lower the Nitrogen Oxide emission. Time to make her day

I know how you feel, it's the principle not the money. Go back to the dealer and ask to see what part the EGR cooler falls under, and what the function of the EGR cooler, and EGR valve plays.

Heck, if you guys only paid $100 then you did well. This week my "EGR valve" went bad according to Planet Ford (Spring TX) and they charged me $867! I have a 2008 6.4 and "Emmissions Warranty" clearly states "EGR Sytem" is covered in the warranty to "5years/100K miles". I had that warranty book in my hand highlighted with yellow marker and still got nowhere. They said the "EGR valve" is not covered. I told the guy to "look at me and tell me with a straight face that "the EGR valve is not part of the EGR system". I agrued for 45 minutes with service country guy and then the manager. They just gave me some numbers to call and sent me on my way.

To OP: what year is your truck? Ford changed their warranty and dropped the $100 deductible in spring of '06 and then made it retroactive to the beginning of the year.

and captainkbt: I was pretty sure that was still in place for the '08s.

I had a bedplate re-seal done on my truck right at the end of the 5 years on my truck. Dealer wanted the $100 and I showed him the letter saying it didn't apply to mine. 3 oil leaks fixed zero dollars from me...

Check into it...

but I also agree it should be part of the longer emissions warranty -- bet in Kali they wouldn't get away with it...

I just checked my '07 for Fed Emissions and for a 6.0 it's 5yrs/100k miles no deductible. They had an extended powertrain that was I think 5/60k...

I see they dropped that powertrain part in '09, according to the link npccpartsman provided...

This thread is 3.5 years old. I doubt there are many 6.0 that still have a valid emission warranty, other than purchased extended warranty.
