Filling up oil filters

Hey guys I have been filling up my oil filters when I change oil and the filter. I figure the quicker the oil gets to the engine the less wear there will be. Just wondering if any off you guys do this. Thanks guys.

I'm pretty sure everyone does. At least it seems that way because of how it's been mentioned or referred to in a "passing manner" in different threads over the years. You know, sort of like it's a given.

I know I've always done it that way, and everyone else I know who changes their own oil does it that way.

I never have filled my oil filters before installation, I trucked for myself for 20 years and always ran Catarpillar powered Peterbilt's, Cat used to recomend not to fill oil filters, If I remember correcty they said not to fill them because it would be unfiltered oil! I don't beleave that Int recomends it ether. Not saying that it is bad just answering the question.
My first Cat went 760'000 miles before rebiuld, not an oil related problem. My last Cat, well it is still going!

Well

it is only unfiltered in one direction.....so I guess it matters which way you fill the filter

I have always filled my oil filter on my 2002 F350 7.3 before installing. Never a problem with anything.

I never pre fill any filters.
Oil pressure only takes about two seconds longer to hit VS starting it up the next morning.

Got me thinking. If dirt drops in the filter from holding it up right and crawing under the truck that in end could end up in the motor. Maybe I will start just putting the filter on instead of prefilling.

My Grandfather once said.. "would you place your uncapped coffee cup under a guy welding from the floor above and drink it?"
Coffee. NO.
Beer. There is no way i would let beer go to waist.

Here is another. You wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from falling rust and debri. What do you use to protect your prefilled filter? I suppose if you cover it with some sort or protection, prefilling would be just fine. I just don't like taking the chance.

I filter stays in the box until just before i lube the oring and screw it on being careful to not tap anything so debri don't fall in..

I've always filled my filters. Oil is new and cleaner that what's been running thru, if you're going to get dirt in your filter when you put it on, you're going to do it with or without oil being in there too. If you change your oil in a real dirty enviroment, you'll keep your filter covered untill your ready to put it on, again with or without oil in it. I guess it's just a matter of preference. I just don't like the idea of rotating parts being un-supported by oil even for a few seconds.
