Yes, you should be able to use the steering column from a 79 F100 in your 68 F100 but to find out all those ''little'' details check it all out in the 1967 - 1972 F-100 And Larger F-Series Trucks forum: 1967 - 1972 F-100 And Larger F-Series Trucks - Ford Truck Enthusiasts Forums
