New clutch slave cylinder seal leaking
#16
Hello and thanks in advance! I put a clutch in my truck 2 1/2 years ago. I thought while I was at the clutch might as well get new slave cyl. About 4 months later winter hit and slave leaked. Got new one in. Just happened again this winter. I am sure the o-ring stuck due to cold and caused the leak. $50 part. Have read low quality on initial install in posts here. I was a bit nervous to add grease or lube in the clutch area to help keep o-ring from sticking and failing. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Second what Andy said.
A few things you can also do while you're under there:
-Replace the problematic not-so-quick-connect fitting with a rigid one from the end of the old hose
-Wash your greasy hands before touching anything to do with the clutch. It is THAT SENSITIVE to petroleum contamination.

This would be the 3rd time having this issue with me. Toady was one of the colder days and when i went out this morning it was leaking. Every time this happens its when its cold. Never happens when its warm out so every year Ive had this truck I've replaced the slave cylinder. Every time I've replaced with aftermarket products from O'reilly's. "IF" I replace it this time I'm definitely going with OEM slave. I'm am 100% sure that cooler weather plays a part in this. I have NO desire to pull this tranny out once a year. I need a garage to park this baby in so the weather isnt so brutal on him.... Sigh. I'm praying for a miracle here. I will pull the tranny out again if need be because I need my truck. But God please provide another option.

I'm having the same problems as many with a leaky slave cylinder in my 2001 ford ranger 4×4. Had the complete clutch assembly changed just a year ago that cost $750. My question is for one could a broken transmission mount cause it to put pressure some how causing it to leak? Secondly the lid says tofill with Dot 3 brake fluid even though it's for the clutch and they do make clutch fluid.Which should i put in it? The brake fluid feels oiler than the clutch fluid. Please help me!!!
