IH, International, IH Case, Ford?!?!?!?

Im slightly confused... I see people describing part numbers as IH part numbers which I know to be the international part numbers instead of ford. Only think I can think of that IH could stand for is "international harvester".... My 3min of research tells me that International harvester is part of Case now, and not international. I was under the impression that International harverster was the long version of international. This new finding leads me to belive that when people say our engines are built by international they mean "IH case" and not international.... However I have seen plenty of people put the international emblem on their trucks..
Obviously I am completely wrong somewhere... Can someone straighten me out on this.....

Back in 1984 or so International Harvestor Agricultural division was bought by Case, thus CaseIH. The International truck division went on it's own. At the time I thought that the truck division was going to be called Navistar but that didn't seem to happen. The IH parts for trucks are from the current International truck division. Hope this helps a little.

So basically IH and International are not the same company, but international parts are still called IH..... And to confuse idiots like me even more navistar is also another name for international parts.... I couldnt go to a Case dealer and buy international parts (for a 7.3) could I?

The engines are built by Navistar International. People just say IH or International for short.
The company was known as International Harvestor up untill the 1980s when they sold off the farm equipment division, name and logos. The remaining truck and engine company could not trademark the name "International" by itself so they created the trademarkable "Navistar International at that time.

You can go to your International Truck dealership and get parts for you T444E usually cheaper than your Ford dealership.
