5.0 oil change

Im changing the oil on my truck by myself for the first time. How many quarts does my 5.0 need? Any other suggestions on doing this to the 5.0 would help. Dumb questions I know.

Your 5.0 takes 6 qts. I use 5 qts valvoline durablend 10w30 and 1 qt lucas oil stabilizer every 4000 mi. Did changes this way every time on my old truck, and it lasted 190k before i finally sold it. And it still ran like a champ! No crud under my valve cover, and purred like a kitten.

Ha! Well I've got one for ya!

My original owners manual says 5qts for a 5.0, and The Chiltons book I got from Murrays says 6 quarts for a 5.0. Go figure, It ends up taking 6 though.

Best course of action is always to put in 5, run it for a minute so the oil circulates and fill the oil filter, then let it sit so the oil drains to the pan. At this time, you can pull your dipstick and add that last quart until the oil is topped off.

My truck has 55psi @idle cold. At operating temp and full warmup drive; it is 25-30psi. I run 6 qts 10W30. I tried the Lucas at 1 qt. Removed it and only put in 1 pint of Synthetic Lucas. There is really no need to use this thicker stock unless you have very worn engine. I'm going back to straight oil; for easier cranking in winter.

It ended up being almost 6. The dipstick was almost fine with 5 but it could use a half a quart or so. So 5-6 quarts. I used all motorcraft stuff from walmart, all for under 20 bucks total. Saved about 25 bucks on an oil change from the **** shop up the street.

I use the Lucas additives in most of my fluids, the injector cleaner and fuel conditioner is great for diesel or gas and the oil additive is good in differentials too.

I read a tip here, put a ziplock bag over the oil filter when you're unscrewing it, helps keep the oil off of you and your truck.
