96 cab swap to 88
I just acquired a 1988 f-350 4x4 with the 460 engine and auto trans ---
The truck is RUSTY !!!!! I have a cab available from a 1996 for only
$ 150 --just the shell --- anyone know if this is do-able---
Anything that would not fit ?? Don't mind the work, but don't want to get into a rats nest of mods either.... Also--would an extended cab work ??
I have to replace the bed anyway, and intend to do a custom utility type bed, so length is not an issue.
Any one with any input is appreciated...
Gary

1989 w/ a cab off of a 92:
Its definitly doable, but if i were to do it all over again, i would try and find a cab off of an 87-91. The big parts bolted right on, ie fenders, seat, doors, cab to frame, but pretty much all of the little stuff was a little bit off, nothing lined up perfectly, from the cowl to to the seatbelts to the dash to the pedals... I had to rewire a couple things, like the button for the dome light at the drivers door.
So, like I said, its doable. Heck, I did it. No major modifications needed, but alot of little ones. But I would HIGHLY recommend looking around for the correct generation cab before you jump on this one. You will be in for one headache after another otherwise.
Heres a pic pretty much summerizing how everything went, lol:
And yes, that trim is installed correctly. For no apparent reason Ford decided to move the seat belt holes that far.
