Seriously in need of transmission help!!:[

Ok, I have an 88 bronco fullsize with a 351W, it HAD a c6 in it that went bad so I replaced it with a newly rebuilt c6 from a 1986 bronco.
Ran fine for the first day, then wouldn't shift out a first gear(it has a full manual reverse valve body, shift pattern PRND123). When I try to shift down into 2nd gear, the whole truck comes to a stop, like there's something jammed in the tranny, the RPMs stay the same but it just stops. I pulled the valve body to see if anything was binding...but when I did I noticed that there was NO CHECK BALL VALVES. Yeah. There's metal shavings in the trans pan. They're really fine shavings and black in color. Could it be possible that the ***** got grinded up in the tranny? And would it even run with no check valves!? I need some help on this one, I'm trying to completly avoid a tranny rebuild due to not having enough funds, but is it possible that the ***** got grinded with the bands? I don't know much about transmissions...any suggestions to what I should do?? I'd appreciate ANY help from you guys..

It was built by J.W. transmissions. That's what's stamped on the valve body.
I don't know about a warranty or not..I bought it off of some guy, so I'll have to call them and get the info. Thanks.
