F1 Car Carrier

[/IMG]

Happy New Year Everyone. I found this picture the other day on the HAMB, thought you all might like it. My father drove for NU Car Carriers in the 50's and the trailer has that name on the side. Wish he was around to ask.

I love those old pictures. The trucks all look so nice and new!

Ever wish you could go back in time, buy one new, seal it up in shrink wrap and hide it in a barn on stands, then come back to present day to get it?

shrink wrap Julie ???

back then you'd have to wrap it up in wax paper or "tin" foil...

if you go back, take some extra shrink wrap and do me a 40 coupe !!!

there was a whole series of these pics my buddy Bill Hamner sent me... most were 4 or 5 car carriers... nowadays its 7-10. they can really cram them on their trailers !

Can you imagine how slow those tractor trailer rigs must have been. The trucks were so under powered for the loads that they hauled!
I have friend whose father had a dozer business in the '50s. They did dozer work in the area oilfields. They hauled the dozer on a lowboy pulled by a '51 F7. My friend told me that they had to unload the dozer at the bottom of big hills, then drive the truck to the top and bring the dozer up and reload it. All the roads were gravel so the dozer didn't tear up the road surface.
Just think of the slow pace the traffic had to run on cross country major highways! Do you think people were more patient back then?

Several weeks ago, we had a thread going with several old truck pictures, just like that one. I think that may even have been one of them. I can't seem to find it now, doing a search for it. There were several photos I added, as well. If someone can find it to share here, that would be very cool.

Well, if you knew you were going, you'd take it with you, right! (and maybe if someone found it you'd be rich for inventing it too).

It's a silly dream because if you could go back in time to put the thing up on blocks and then go get it when you came back to present, why not just bring it back with you in the first place?

Silly me.....Scotty beam me up!
