New Radio Install Pics

I installed a new radio and thought I would take pics during the process to share.

AVH-4100DVD Radio
CD-BTB200 Bluetooth Adapter

-Radio removed and new wire harness attached

-Radio Installed

-Bluetooth module is at the bottom right

-Everything is in and working

Notes:
-Make sure to remove cd's from original radio BEFORE you remove it
-Get a good install kit and wire harness kit
-When instructions say "cut rear support tabs from bracket" make sure you know which tabs are in the rear. I cut the front and had to get a new install kit

Nice.

Anything special to get the trim and/or factory radio out? Like those silly U-bolt deals for the previous generation(97-03).

Wife bought me a new unit thru Crutchfield, just waiting on the boat from China.

The trim will just "pop" off. I started pulling out from just above the ashtray.
Nothing special to remove the head unit. Just four screws. 7mm if I remember correctly.
I used the Metra 95-5812 install kit. Search for Metra 95-5812. I can't find the wire harness kit number.

I was curious if anyone would notice my hanging light there. It works really well in tight spots like that. I ended up doing the install at night. Had too many other chores to do during the day.

I'll put it through it's paces, but so far:
-BT phone connection works pretty well. I mounted the mic where the steering column and guage cluster meets. Wife says it sounds pretty good while I'm driving.
-BT phone/music connection works well also. I can play my mp3 music on the phone and have it come through. Sounds pretty clean.
-I'll stick a DVD in it to see how well it looks. I had the "hack" done so I could play the DVD anytime.
-I had already put some mb quart speakers in a long time ago and they've finally come alive. I may switch the front with some component (lows on bottom and tweeter on top of door) to get a little better sound out of it. I can't bring myself to put in a sub, yet.

I ordered a backup camera from ebay. About $20 shipped from some folks in China. We'll see how well it works. I hope it gets here in the next week or so.

I would probably buy a unit like that, but I just fear that it would get stolen. I wish there was a way to have an OE looking cover to go over it or something.

Yeah that is why my wife ended up getting me a stereo before I got myself a stereo. Right now there is nothing in my truck with breaking my window for and I liked it that way. I will have to get the EDGE CTS over the normal Edge so I can use it for a backup cam viewer. Although for the price she says she got the Dual XHD7714 for and the reviews I am sure I will enjoy it just fine. I had been looking at some ultra cheap double din dvd video unit but the thought that I don't speak Chinese(instructions not in Engrish) and I had no idea on how long it would really last.

Love the pictures. Makes me a little less concerned about getting into my dash.

ETA: Lets us know how the cheapie camera works as well.

Just bought a AVH-P31000DVD (I'm cheap and it was an open box item at best buy).

Just wondering, what wires did you tap into for the reverse input?

I'm still waiting on my camera to come in from China. Since I have to run a cable from the back anyway, I'm going to tie an extra one into the reverse lights from the back. I think I've seen some thread that discusses where to find the wire in the dash.

Looks great! I almost got a touch screen, but settled on a kenwood DPX-503. LOVE IT!

I started doing the install myself, but couldnt get it to mount correctly, so i took it to a local car audio/custom shop and they put it in for me in ~30 minutes.

She has HD/Satallite, iPod Direct(displays my ipod screen on the unit so i can control it from there), bluetooth, and an AUX jack. Very happy with it! I can change everycolor on it to, everylight in it is variable so i can make each button a different color!

Heres what i have:

Man, I take Crutchfield's for granted living about an hour from their stores, I forget that most of the world deals with them mail order.

They have two stores, one in Charlottesville, one in Harrisonburg. Both have a "return" rack where returned stuff that's checked out is put on discount, full warranty. Reason for returns often are ordered wrong unit or the wife just got pi55ed and buyer had "remorse".

Good deals and they have all the harness adapters you could imagine. Been using them for 20+ years now, good folks.
