Silly Question

Guy's
This could very well be the wrong column to ask in, but here goes...
Was an AOD available in F250's with a 460 and 4wd? I'm kicking around a swap idea with my '79

Thanks for your help,
Pat

The AOD was never offered with a big block bolt pattern, it was never installed behind a 5.8 in a truck or in an F250 either.. though it will boltup and perform well with some upgrades. You're limited to the E4OD or one of the manual trannys of course.

Dang. Not the answer I was hoping for.....I wonder what it would take to make the E4OD work?

A big block E4OD will bolt right in but controlling it is another story, the cheap but more difficult solution is a 460/E4OD wiring harness and computer from a donor truck, the easy but expensive solution involves an aftermarket tranny controller and wiring harness. The first one may only cost you $100 but the second one will be over $1000.

What about a C6? Low cost, will bolt right up and bullet proof and no computer. Drawback is no overdrive.

They make an adapter to bolt an AOD behind a big block. Only problem is for the cost you are probably better off using an E4OD and buying a controller for it.

Adapter- AOD Transmission from PATC, AOD Transmissions

Thanks for the input fella's.....The truck has a C6 in it now, I'm kicking around the thought of going to overdrive.....Looks like E4OD is probably the way to go....

E4OD is stronger than the AOD.........C6 is bullet proof, I would stay with it if possible. The key to keeping a E4OD is maintenance, and a big trans cooler.........Don't let it get hot, and problems are avoided.

E4OD..as said by Dave, keep a cooler on it and keep the fluid changed.

It's a sloppy transmission. A good one, but sloppy. Keep the C6!
