How to ID my FE????(Please Help)
i have a 65 pickup with an FE. I know they came stock 352 but i wanna be sure. How? Where are the casting #'s and what do they mean? I know the heads are from a 390 because the casting number starts with D2 and that means 1972 right? This has been bothering me. Please Help

a far as i know there is only one way to know forsure what you have. and that is to pull the head and measure the bore. i have a 65 f100 with a 352. when i had it rebuilt i checked the casting numbers and what i found was the block was a 352 the crank was a 360 te heads were a 390. even though i know the motor was never rebuilt previousely. i got the info from a book i bought on Ford Fe engines.

mat, & phats, The 65 352 wouldn't have options for the truck in 65.
Ford's casting system that can be misleading. The 360 was introduced several years after the 65 year model, and because of bore differences, don't think that 390 heads would work on a 352.

i know that the 360 came out after 65 and i also dont think the 390 heads will work on a 352 but i was just trying to relay the same thing you said. that the system is screwy. i cant find the book i used to decode the numbers but i do remember what it said , because i thought it was kind of strange. i think it even said i had a 390 crank. wich like i said i knew was wrong. hey for all i know the book could have been wrong. i will try to find it and let you know who wrote it.
