BOOT FOR FRONT DRIVESHAFT NICE

Thought I'd make a new thread for this topic..

Ok got a nice boot thats a no brainer..
3260120 polaris thats the number here's what it looks like.

Get at your atv dealer

Yamaha HD Outboard Outer Inner ATV UTV CV Joint Boot :eBay Motors (item 280439795008 end time Dec-23-09 18:02:29 PST)

Now cut the boot in that flat middle section leave about 1/2 to 5/8 of the flat section and thats it. Put a little grease on the small end slide it on the driveshaft..the other side slides on the case..Its longer so it can't fall off so no clamps needed...Really nice...I would get the polaris oem its better rubber..I'm going to do all my vans now..

Pic's to come..

Dick

thanks dick,

may be doing the boot myself next spring.
was under the old girl yesterday afternoon, has lower engine slow oil leak and wet transfer case slow leaker. so will be under it next spring doing a complete service.
tighten oil pan bolts.
tighten TC bolts.
check all lube levels.
check all the drivelines and boots.
change brake fluid.
it never ends

she brought me through some tough icy spots again this winter, much better than the heavy Dodge which is too front end heavy with the diesel.

fun to watch the women commuters in their Honda FWDs this winter doing loop-de-loops at 60 mph on the icy freeway or ending up hanging over an overpass. then get out in their 4" spike heels on the ice, slip on their big buns, and wonder why they slid off the road at 60 mph while yacking on their cell phone and putting on their makeup

a Merry Christmas to your family and you

> tighten oil pan bolts.

Is there an easy way to do this? I seem to recall that I had to leave the front axle off the vehicle to get to those front oil pan bolts.

not that I've found. there's nothing easy on the Aero except getting in and driving it.

hope it isn't the front seal, just oil wet now, no big drips except the fool working on it. was leaking from the factory. dealer tried stopping the leak and worked for a couple months. i tightened them and it's lasted for 12 years.

think i used a wire flex extension and u-joint socket last time but been years ago. Rangers are so much easier.

got a bunch of different fasteners ordered for the plastic fall off parts.

this Aero project may interfere in my halibut fishing.

how about we make Dick's FDL boot find and repair a sticky?
lots of us AWDs out here

please PM Santa Tung

Santa Tung are you around or out making those last minute deliveries. what is that frothy goo in Santa's mustache? he's probably been in the frig eggnog jug again

i think i saw Santa Tung surfing at Seal Beach CA

Merry Christmas to all

You can get the cv boots anywhere. Its the front driveshaft thats the problem.

I think the trick is to get a CV joint boot and cut off part of the small end so that it fits over the small end of the drive shaft, which is bigger than the small end of most CVs. You will be using part of the bellows to seal against the front drive shaft with a clamp.

I happened to be under my van today, and found a crack in the front drive shaft boot, so I'll have to find a replacement.

To Dick (99f350sd): Do you have picks of your install yet? I may order that part you referenced at eBay.

Dick,

I tried ordering the part from that ebay source, allsportperformance, but I got a request for more information from their sales rep, Fred. He says he goes by application only, and does not recognize the Polaris part number you provided. Do you have any more detailed information on the part you got, besides that it's for a Yamaha whatever?

thanks

not yet, too cold and wet to crawl under the old girl and start working. plus the steelhead and sturgeon are biting.
got 3 projects now for her

brakes and flush
find engine oil leak and repair while it's still just a seeper
go over the drivetrain
