Question Where is the oil pressure switch located

Hello

New owner of a used 2002 Ranger XLT 4x4 (with 59k miles) here (and new to this forum). Having problems with the oil pressure gauge not registering on cold starts (though it registers after the engine warms up). I know this is nothing more than an idiot light since the gauge isn't really a gauge (inasmuch as it registers in the normal range at 7 psi and stays there unless the pressure goes away). I've read that this is likely due to the oil pressure switch not functioning properly. I'd like to know where this switch is located on a 4.0 L V6.

Other than this, the engine functions normally (though it sucks the gas).

Thanks in advance for any help or links that can guide me.

Peace...
Jim

Thank you kind sir... I'll have a look and see if I can locate it.

I called the dealer yesterday just to see what they would charge to install this $10 part. They wanted $139.50 to put it in... $39.50 for the part and $100 labor! He sez "but we don't have the part in stock so I'll need to order it" - I told him not to bother.

Peace...

I haven't been on the Zone website lately, but AutoZone used to have component locations, torque specs, etc... It may be some help if you can't find the sender.

I've been looking for several weeks now. Auto Zone says it's close to the oil filter but not found. Haynes says the same. Ford mechanic at dealership says on top on passenger side near fuel injectors & mechanic friend says in the front on driver side on block. If anyone can get me a diagram of where this unit is on the 2003 Ford Ranger XLT, I would greatly appreciated.

It is right in front of the drivers side motor mount. Works best to use a slotted box end wrench to slip over the larger part of the sensor and remove it. Buy a replacement sensor and you will know what it looks like and what size tool to use.
