Truck intermittent about starting
2002 F-150 King Ranch, with a 5.4, auto.
When the wife goes to start it, "sometimes it will start, sometimes it won't". Fuel filter has been replaced, the fuel pump relay has been replaced, and one other relay replaced. (NOT sure which one it was). Fuel filter replaced. FORD was to check the fuel pump pressure, we picked it up last night after closing time, and haven't talked to them yet.
She got in it to start it, and the first time it failed. She turns the key on, and CAN HEAR the fuel pump work.
Ideas ??

Autozone sells the Idle Air Control Valve, part number TV238, for $49.99. The same part from Ford, no labor, will probably cost between $100 and $150. It's located top center in the engine compartment around the throttle body I believe. Did you try to crank with the pedal partially depressed?
Per Alldatadiy.com:
The idle air control (IAC) valve assembly controls engine idle speed and provides a dash pot function. The IAC valve assembly meters intake air around the throttle plate through a bypass within the IAC valve assembly and throttle body. The PCM determines the desired idle speed or bypass air and signals the IAC valve assembly through a specified duty cycle. The IAC valve responds by positioning the IAC valve to control the amount of bypassed air. The PCM monitors engine rpm and increases or decreases the IAC duty cycle in order to achieve the desired rpm.
The PCM uses the IAC valve assembly to control:
* No touch start
* Cold engine fast idle for rapid warm-up
* Idle (corrects for engine load)
* Stumble or stalling on deceleration (provides a dash pot function)
* Over-temperature idle boost.
* Air Assist to Injectors.

O.K. thanx. The wife says that she had been letting the fuel pump stop pumping before she turned the ignition over to start. BUT, yesterday, she got in the truck, and just started it. There was no problem THEN. NOT to say that that cured it.
My truck is going in this week, for that IAV. (I read the estimate). They are $101.00, + $48.00 labor @ FORD.

Im having some what of the Same problem with my 2003 F-150 4.2 2wd. Today when I went to start my truck it would crank over but not fire up. One thing I noticed on mine is that when I try to start it the Odometer will read all DASHES and will not start. Now if the I keep turning the Key on and Off till the Odometer Reads the Mileage again it Fires right Up and Runs like a Top. I removed the Negative lead off the Battery to make sure it was getting a good connection and to reset the PCM. After doing this it has Fired right up everytime. Curious to let it sit over Night and see if it will start in the Morning but Im thinking it might be a problem with my PCM but not quite sure yet.
Looking for some ADVICE as to what might be causing this Issue

No problem FFB, hope that solves your troubles...
Have you scanned it for codes at all? Not all codes will throw a Check Engine Light.
