Idea's on where to install a power inverter

I have the 08 F250 Crew with the center console. Bench seat in the rear.

I want to add a power inverter and run it off of one of upfitter switches (may not because of the amps required).

Don't want to put it in the console so am looking for ideas on where to place it so it is out of sight and out of the way.

Depending on the physical size of the inverter your looking at, and how much wiring you want to do, I would probably consider going behind the back seat with it. There is a pretty decent amount of space in that area, as well as it is out of the way and protected.

You can take it apart and redirect the on/off switch wiring to your upfitter switch w/out worrying about amp draw. But you should run directly from the battery some heavy gauge depending on the size of the inverter.

Have thought of that area, but was thinking it may not have enough air to keep it cooled down.

That is a good idea!

You could mount the inverter on the back side of the front center console...

Hard to say without knowing the size. Under the seat works sometimes, as does in an overhead console.

I have also seen them in a sealed container and mounted under the hood.

If you use the output from a 30 amp upfitter switch (which is on a relay) you don't need to go to the battery, unless it can draw over 30 amps.

I cannot mount it on the back of the console as I will be in the way of cup holders. The 08's have cup holders in the rear now on the Crew Cabs. I am looking at least 2 outlets so not sure of the amperage, I need to go back and measure the device and then I will get the specs.

How about using a pedestal floor mount and place the inverter vertically in front of the center console...

30amps at 12 volts is equal to 3 amps at 120 volts or 360 watts. That's a pretty small inverter.

Probably looking at more like 1100Watt capablity.

I've mounted my share of these units. I normally hide them behind the rear seat. These are made to stay semi cool and most have fans in them. I have one in my current 06 F250 behind the seat. You can still use your upfitter switches, just run the power thru a large relay (I use 75 amp depending on the size of the inverter). The good thing about this is when you shut off the truck it goes off. Lastly you can use a cheap extention cord, or on a few I have actually mounted a single outlet on a console then ran the power cable back to the inverter.
