The best towing/cruiser

So I have a 93 F350, 5.8, 2WD, Auto (I think it is a C6 but not confirmed yet) and while I am having some problems with it (see: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...moron-out.html) my intent is to use it to pull my 26' 5th wheel camper long distances. So that being said I am look for any ideas on how to make it comfortable for the family to ride in, handle okay with the camper and maybe get reasonable MPG. My current plan is as follows:

Get it running good
Replace the font bench seat with captains. Any one know of any good ones that fit please let me know.
A custom console with inverter, gauges and cup holders.
Deep cycle batteries. I will likely move them under the bed as well.
HD alternate

Now there are two things I really need your help on, cruise control and over drive. would you recommend an after market cruise or trying to put a factory unit in? As far as over drive I would love to put a Gear Vendors unit in but at $3000 that is not going to happen. Is there a cheaper way? E4OD or 5 speed conversion?

Any ideas or help are greatly appreciated.

I'd suggest OEM ford parts for both of your upgrades, find a donor vehicle with cruise and take everything you need from it, and a ZF 5-speed would be the easiest swap in this truck if it now has the C6. With a 351 this won't be a fast tow rig but it'll get the job done, it will get half decent milage when empty but I don't see it doing very well when towing.. that's the nature of a gasoline engine.

I would anticipate 7-9mpg towing a trailer like that with that truck, less if you're into a headwind. I consistently got 9.5-10.5 mpg towing a 21' boat (~5k lb) but those are aerodynamic and tow easily. But you'll get there, and you're not out $50k for a new diesel truck.

It probably won't hold OD towing anyway. So the OD unit may be a waste of money if trying to get better economy while towing. C6 doesn't have a lock-up torque converter though, so a 5speed would net efficiency gains even if just driving in direct-drive (4th gear).
