Quick brake upgrade 05calipers on 00

I just wanted to verify what I needed to put the 05 front brake calipers onto my 00 truck. Do I just need the calipers or do I need the brackets also. I'm not putting the 05 rotors on because the old rotors are mint.
Also do I need the 05 brake pads also.

I just bought new rear calipers for the rear and forgot the 05 F350 calipers were bigger as well. Oh well. This is on the v10 work truck so no big deal. If it can't pull it then I don't have to worry about stopping it LOL.
the 05 calipers are actually cheaper then the 00 for some reason.

I am in hopes someone will chime in and help me out with this question.
I know that the 05 caliper has a larger diam piston, and I thought I had read somewhere that it will bolt in place of the 99-04 caliper.
Has anyone done this mod or know of an 05 truck hey could measure the bolt spacing between the caliper slide bolts. If that is the same then I'm sure the calipers will interchange.

I use the slotted rotors on my 2000 Excursion and have plenty of stopping power. I haven't seen the need to replace the calipers with anything else than stock.

i think you can do it. i just got back from oriley's were i compared rotors & calipers. the rotors look the same except for out side diameter. the 05's are some where around a inch bigger in OD. calipers look like the mounting holes are in the same place although they do look alittle different. so i think you would need the mountaing brackets & if you do that then you are probably going to need the 05 rotors. but man the piston diameter in those 05 calipers look HUGE. not so much physicaly but when you think about them being hydraulic pistons, you DAMN. just need to do some more research on the booster & master cylinder before i make the leap.

Does this mean you also need an '05 proportioning valve, or even an '05 master cylinder, to get the proper ratio of front-to-back braking force?

Come to think of it, I'm not sure our systems use a proportioning valve at all.

Anybody know for sure?

There is no mention of a proportioning valve in my Ford manual on dvd. It appears the front and rear systems just go from the master cylinder through the ABS hydraulic control unit and on to the calipers. It appears the HCU acts as a proportioning valve.

thats what i need to look into. more on the booster & master cylinder, i don't think there is a proportioning valve. to me that would explain why the rear calipers are so small. before anyone say's it i know the front does most of the stoping but as we all know thats a little dinky caliper on the back.

Of course, Roland.

If I had thought about it for a bit, I wouldn't have asked the question.

Proportioning valves are to "balance" the front/rear braking ratio so that one end doesn't lock up before the other, causing directional stability problems. ABS solves that, too, but in a better way.

Solved. Thanks!

I would think you would need a bigger bore master cylinder to match the bigger cylinder of the caliper

No I don't but usually when you change to a lager volume cyl you will need a larger volume on the pump stroke
