Not to hijack the thread, but I noticed the front wheel in this pic Stu posted has clips for retaining the hubcap instead of the usual stamped humps. My Merc has one like that, too, with the remnants of a painted pinstripe. Can someone tell me more about the history of that, and what it's from? I'm not familiar with Fords having hubcap clips.

Probably Dodge or International wheels. I think they had the same bolt pattern as the Fords. Stu will know.

Man, Wayne, good eye. I hadn't seen that either. So I went to the books. Kelsey Hayes in 1953 listed several wheels in either 15" or 16" size, with 5 x 5.5" circle, and with hub cap clips. They were:

Lincoln - 15" x 5", part #26H-1015 or part #5EH-1015; 16" x 4", part #06H-1015. Maybe Bill (N.D.) can tell us what year and model Lincoln used them.

Cadillac - 16" x 4.5", GM part #1426265; 16" x 5", part #1426268. Anybody got any Cadillac parts books to tell us what year and model?

They also list three others. Two were described as "Change Over and Trailer" in either 16" x 4" or 16" x 4.5". The last is a set with no brand or other description in a 16" x 6" size. I'm gonna guess that this last set was a special order maybe for Cadillac since the wheel design shown was the same as the above Cadillac wheels.

Also off subject a little, but it's interesting going through this that K-H also lists the special order 18" "milk truck" Ford and Mercury wheels and their part numbers. Wouldn't it be great if you could just order a set of them by part number today. A pair of them just sold on eBay for $1000 plus. Stu

What do you make of this 1951?

From what I've been reading in this thread, it appears that this truck received a conversion for the extended cab. Was this done prior to sale to the customer or afterwards?

What do you all think? She's a restoration candidate...

Thanks, Stu! That's great info. Just goes to show, the only thing better than having a library full of books is, knowing someone who does. ;-)

Wow, another one shows up!! Looks like it's on an F-3 chassis.

Before I get going, welcome to the group. Glad to have you. In your case I think the super cab modification could have been done either before the customer took delivery, or after. In the case of the MH that started this discussion, that would have been done later since the 48-50 cab sits on a '47 or older chassis. Is she a restoration candidate? You bet. Absolutely she is. And since you're in the San Diego area it's likely to be in good solid condition. Unlike survivors here on the plains. Stu

Yeah, thanks, if only they weren't spread all over the floor around the 'puter. Stu

Stu, thanks for the warm welcome. I've got an appointment to see the truck tomorrow morning so I'm hoping that it's in decent shape. I've done several of these restorrations before, most recently on a 1955 GMC:

but I've never seen one with an extended cab. It's a lot easier to budget for a restoration when you know what something is worth! How many of these do you reckon they made?

Cheers,

Lucas

You better be careful! I'm in SoCal now and coming back home with an empty trailer. Just hope that I don't find that truck before your appointment tomorrow...

That's a nice looking truck. There weren't many of them made. I've only seen a handful in pictures. I think that last one sold on eBay, in similar condition, around the $2500 range.

We'll see just how nice it is tomorrow. The seller might be asking too much for something that needs a lot of work. If I pass, I'll post a link here on the forum.

Cheers!
