hooked up a vac guage. need help deciphering

ok hooked up the vac guage. it read 12-15"hg and kind of hovered between the two slowly moving back and forth. when i moved the idle up manualy to 800rpm it went to 20"hg (it idles at 500rpm on it's own for some resone and)

also when looking for a vac line to tap into i noticed there was an unpluged yellow vac line in the back of the engine. it seems to go to the solinoids on the driver side of the engione and idea what it is for? know where it gois in the back of the engine?

The yellow vacuum lines runs from the AIR D solenoid to the AIR D part of the AIR diverter valve.

Yes it would cause a vacuum leak if the AIR D solenoid is still hooked up and active. But not all the time as the AIR D solenoid is only on when the computer thinks it should be.

Just in back of the Ignition Coil. Three solenoids there, from front to rear:
EGR
TAB (AIR B)
TAD (AIR D)

Uh, that's the air filter...if there's oil in it, you have some real serious blowby. In conjunction with the low vacuum reading, I would suspect you bought a truck with a tired engine.

vacs only low when it idles at 450-500rpm (i hooked up a digital tach my school has) if i raise it manualy to 800rpm it's 20+"hg witch is why i am stumped to why it idles so dang low in the first place.

also with it running with the oil cap off nothing comes out. normaly with blow by it puffs out the oil fill with the cap off. (the truck is full of oil before you ask and has good oil pressure half way on the factory guage)

going to clean the TB and IAC see if that will raise the idle speed up.
