Need help! i was driving home and i heard a loud bang, next thing i noticed was the window fell all the way down and wont come back up. I hear a slight clicking sound when i press the window button, but nothing happens...maybe a broken regulater???? how much do these cost? can i fix it on my own?
Well i had someone look at it and they told me i would have to buy a whole regulater, which came up to about 187$, 220$ with labor. Does this sound about right? Would it be cheaper to do it myself?
I know our site sponsors have the regulator for about 100-112$, but that's not including s&h (?). You might be able to shop around locally, the 187$ seems like its full MSRP.
It more than certainly would be worth doing it yourself.
Welcome to the "Ford Window Regulators Suck" Club. I have had 3 replaced on my 2004 Screw. From what I understand, its a plastic piece on the regulator that breaks. Have to replace the whole thing. Good luck.
Hey, new here. Not trying to hijack the thread but have similar issue. My brothers '05 Screw dropped all four window within a month and became pretty costly to repair. My '07 Expd driver door window just suddenly began dragging. I got it closed and have left it. Noew I hear "rattle" when I close the door. Im pretty sure a pulley has broken and possibly dropped a cable. Id like to correct this before the window drops causing more damage. If someone could give me a link to a "how to" thread Id greatly appreciate it.

I would category it as 3 on 1 to 5 scale of difficulty. It took total of 1 1/2 hr to replace the entire regulator (you don't want to try to repair it).
The regulator was bought from Ed. PM me your email and I will send you the procedure I used.
You can do this total job at home for about $135.00 vs the $400 + for professional installation.
One tip.. I found it easier to install the new regulator with 1 person HOLDING the window up to allow the regulator to clear. With the window installed in the regulator I ran the window down and snugged the bottom 2 10 mm bolts then ran it up and snugged the top 10 mm bolts. This assured the window was properly centered. Once this was confirmed I tightened the bolts.
It is easy to scratch the glass and tint but if you use someone to hold it up you don't have to remove the glass from the door and the chance of a scratch is very minimal.

It happened on my 05 FX4 the day after Halloween. I'm taking mine in to the shop this afternoon. I think my extended warranty through Olympicare will cover it with just a $100 deductible. If not, I'll be getting with you guys to find where to order the regulator at the cheapest price.

If all you pay is $100 you will be ahead, the part is about $125. Way to go warranty!.
Tip.... prevent damage to these windows by STOPPING just before full up or full down. At motor full speed it is generating full torque. Just tap the button for last 1" up or down to close and reduce stress on the Very TINY braded cable.

Just have to take the door panel off and everything is right there. I used a wood block to hold the window up and out of the way. Took about an hour and a half.

Save $$ don't spend the $$ on wood for the block,, use son in law
