glad the snow tires are going on..
today i'm pretty glad i'm putting some double studded snow tires on this week. but i thought i might be able to make it up the hill since theres so much weight and 4x4. no such luck..i got about half way and had to turn around and white knuckle it down and went home to grab the chrysler 300C AWD with blizzak snow tires. made it up no problem!
moral if this story, 20s and street tires are good for summer. no so much winter lol
went home, grabbed the chrysler 300c awd with blizzaks and she was like a moutain goat! this honda got stuck about 100ft from where this pic was taken. i stopped let her figure out what she was going to do then passed her and kept on truckin

Maybe it's just me,,,But I think those wheels and so called tire's on your all and Mighty Excursion look like Dog Do-Do!!
Pretty sad that a Chrysler 300 could make it up the Hill ,,,and an 7500k lb 4x4 Excursion would not make it,,,,,Damn,,,, Good stock tires would have gone right up that hill.
Your other Mods look Good,,,,Up in Alaska I would think Traction to be the main Issue.

AlaskanEX,
When you gear up your Excursion for snow, what size and type of tires do you select?
Does it handle the conditions for you?
I know that our winter weather here in Upstate New York is merely like spring weather for you, but I am interested in exceeding Mother Nature.
Thank you,
-JR

ofcourse the street/summer tires on the 20s are crap in any kind of bad weather(not bad in rain though). they are summer tires and you cant expect them to be anything more.
i picked up some used stock wheels yesterday and had my studded tires put on them. then i put them on the truck since its that time of year now.
i'm using BFG "trac edge" that are double studded size 235/85 16. i used these tires last year on my f-250 snowplow truck and they were amazing. next year i plan to buy a new set for the excursion so i can use these on the f-250 again. but money is semi tight right now so i didnt feel like droping $700 on tires at the moment as i have some medical bills and such to deal with.
this will be my first full winter with the excursion. i got it last year in march and only spent a few weeks in the ice/snow covered roads with it. the one thing i allready know is going to bother me is the open rear end. i would really like atleast a limitd slip but i'll just have to deal with it for now.
bad pic i know
and up untill a week ago this is what the 300c looked like. but since i knew the snow was coming i switched them out. now i still have the 150, 2 explorers, and durango to switch over to snow tires lol
