So if his vin code is a "C" that means someone pulled the ATS factory turbo and installed a Hypermax?!? That seems odd.

Easiest way to tell the difference for a newbie, psd has the oil fill cap on the pass valve cover, idi is front and center.

Prove it. Everything from that one picture just screams non-turbo, IDI. So that squashes the rumor that you have a Powerstroke, because you don't. There is no way for you to hook up a programmer, or a chip, or ANYTHING because there's no computer controlling that engine. It's 100% mechanical.

That means absolutely nothing to me or anyone else without a picture to prove it. So again, prove it.

well these are such old trucks ya never know what you'll find now i suppose.turbo could have failed and a po replaced it with a better deal at the time, had a spare hypermax or whole spare engine, found one in the yard priced right, just wanted to try a different one etc.etc.

Oh, I bet my truck would still spank his, but that's apples to oranges now. I've just never seen a turbo set up that utilized the stock air filter. How is that even possible?

Here is a thread form TDS that shows some really good pictures of a hypermax setup. The third picture in the thread shows the air cleaner adapter. This piece comes out of the turbo, bolts to the intake manifold forward and to the drivers side of the factory intake location, and the ford air cleaner goes on top.

http://www.thedieselstop.com/forums/...bought-286175/

There is also a link in that thread to A write up by Mel Agne about his hypermax install. There are some good pictures and details in that article as well.

Really, it's not that hard to adapt a factory air cleans to a turbo, although, I still don't know why they (hypermax) didn't choose a more free flowing option.
