new guy new truck 57 F100

Purchased this as a father son project for my 14 1/2 year old son. We've built a jeep from the ground up together, but this will be HIS project and his first driver.
1957 F100 Custom Cab, short bed slab side, Y-block (272?) with a 3 on the tree.
pretty straight, has some rust around the rain gutter, and missing the tailgate and seat.
I've searched around a bit for tech data on the vin and data plate....can any one point me in the right direction?
Thanks, and we'll be around as the build progresses
Jim

Welcome to FTE! Something this new isn't my specialty, but someone will come along and decipher the numbers. Then again, nothing is my specialty.

Vehicle Identification Number listed on the Data Plate - F10K7*12197
You seem to be Missing a second letter in the sequence, which would be the Assembly Plant Code.
Where I placed the "Astrix" above is where it should be.

* Series Identification
F10 = F100

* Engine Code
K = 272ci 8Cyl 2BC Carburetor 145hp

* Models Year
7 = 1957

* Assembly Plant
A = Atlanta, GA
G = Chicago, IL
D = Dallas, TX
H = Detriot, MI
K = Kansas City, MO
L = Long Beach, CA
U = Louisville, KY
E = Mahwah, NJ
M = Memphis, TN
N = Norfolk,VA
R = San Jose, CA
P = St. Paul, MN
* Production Sequence (Series #)

If I'm reading my sources correctly, it should be "Starmist Blue".
DSO, I as I recall means that your truck was originally a Special Order.

To me the hardest pieces to find have been the front turn signals (have 2 sets (both rusty and nobody re-pops them) and a good grill. I have a bunch of pics in my gallery.

Enjoy your project and the time with your son,
SPark
