Having Tire/Wheel fitment issues on 01 Excursion

First time Ford Forum poster! I searched various forums for info but results are inconsistent with what I'm experiencing.

Mommy's Excursion has a 6 inch FabTech lift. We run an older set of Weld 16.5X12 wheels with 36X14.5 Super Swampers but have not measured the offset. I have no clearance issues but hate the Super Swampers and want to run a narrower wheel/tire and take some of the stress off the bearings.

We "tried on" the following wheel/tire combo's on the front of the Excursion at a local LesSchwab
<O
Moto Metal 959 18x9 8/170 -12MM offset 4.5 backspace<O</O
Open Country M/T in size 37X13.50R18/8 124Q load range E<O</O
<O
And the tire hit the front leaf spring at almost full turn <O</O
<O
So I tried:<O</O
<O
Open Country M/T in size 35X12.50R18/8 124Q load range E<O</O
<O
And the tire still hits the leaf spring at full turn

They did not have a narrower tire in stock so <OI’m thinking I need to be looking for a wheel with a 3.75 backspace but not seeing a whole lot of selection out there. Any input or advice anyone might have would be appreciated.

thanks in advance,
Brian<O</O</O

thats a common issue with our trucks. they almost all hit the springs at full lock. I have a set of 325/50/22's on my X and they hit the springs. I will never do anything t correct it except for not cranking the wheel to full lock. sorry its no help but I dont think that you are going to eliminate it. just lessen it.

Easy fix! Turn your wheel full Lt or Rt, you will see a small steering stop that makes contact at full lock. Weld a washer(s) on the end of it until the tires don't hit the springs. In most cases, it shouldn't take to much.

I've also heard of folks drilling and tapping a grade 8 bolt in the bumpstop to provide some adjustment. Although this fixes the rub issue would rather not sacrafice turning radius if at all possible.

I was hoping to find another person with a lifted Excursion running 35-37 inch tires that has found the wheel offset sweet spot. My 36X14.5X16.5 tires do not rub but want to find a 17-18 inch wheel to get a better tire selection and eliminate the no-safety bead issue on the 16.5 wheels.

Sounds like you need to find out what the spacing is then. Take a wheel off and cut a 2x4 17" long and measure the distance between the board and the back of the wheel.

Did you ever find a solution to fitting 37" tires? I'm about to go down the same road with a 6" lift and 37x12.50's. I was told 4.5" backspace was what to get but I see you still had issues.

I'd like to know as well. I want to know what I can fit using Procomp 22210 springs.

From what I have read those springs are a 2" lift and with some minor trimming you can fit 315s
