Questions for those of you with higher miles...

For those of you with higher miles and 5.4s what have you done in terms of transmission maintenance and how are your transmissions holding up?

The reason I ask is because I am coming up on 30k on my 07' and after reading all different forums I am torn on whether to do a fluid exchange, flush, simple pan drop and filter and fluid change or just leave it alone!

If there is someone out there with higher miles, I would like to do what has worked best for you. I'm leaning towards a simple fluid and filter change every 30k.

Thanks!

What I have done with all my vehicles for 30+ years is

at 25K I drop the pan, replace the filter and flush the system (using the fill pan with fluid, start the engine with a disconnected ATF return line, when 3 quarts have dumped, shut off the engine, refill the pan and repeat the process until the fluid is replaced.

My 06 has 62 K on it and i did the drop pan and change filter and replaced... Then i had the trans fully flushed and all new fluid put in by the dealer at 56K i tow alot with my truck. I would be willing to say that 30K easy are towing miles on my truck. I take care of it and do my oil every 3k as well.

My cars get fluid and filter changes at 30,000 miles. My "new to me" '07 F150 5.4 auto will get the same here soon. My '01 Merc and '95 Bird have TC drain plugs, and when I change fluid the first time in my personal cars, I add a drain plug in the pan.

Over 30 years of police cars and they allways got / get 30,000 mile fluid and filter changes since 1978. The only trans problem I ever had was when something broke in an '80 Plymouth one night and it self destructed, and I once was reissued a used 1991 Caprice that a supervisor had used prior to retiring, it was slipping bad so I had a new reman 700R4 put it it.

About every 40, 000 kkilometers ( aproximetely 25,000 miles) I drop the pan, and change the filter, and add back the fluid that drained out.

My 2004 has way over 280,000 kilometers on it, and much of it is towing, and all but the first 50,000 aproximately are with a supercharger.

My 2007 I just bought, is getting the same done to it on the weekend.
