question about throttle body spacer

i have a Helix Power Tower Plus in my truck and everyone i talk to says it does nothing for my bottom end power and its better i take it out. Plus i was told by two guys who have other brands of spacers that these plus's were made for one reason to be quit and not whistle which this one doesn't do at all. So should i keep it or buy a standard power tower so i can get that sweet sounding whistle into my truck.

Throttle body spacers are probably the biggest scam out there. They do nothing but add noise. Take it out and use it for target practice.

If anything, there designed to improve top end throttle response not bottom or low end power. Whatever power they might produce would be around 5-6k and it this level you won't notice much of anything. I might suppose if you had a CAI, true duals and a tuner it could help accent overall power if you do high rpm driving. If you like the sound you could try installing a referee type whistle in the air intake path. LOL

Throttle body spacers got their "start" when placed under carburetors, where they actually DO something, although how "much" they do is STILL under question. I always attributed them to giving the mixture just a little more time to "balance" under the throttle plates, so you weren't (in this case, on a Chevy) over-feeding the rear cylinders, and under-feeding the fronts, from the angle of the throttle plates. Thus "balanced," they helped low-end power. They also changed the resonant length of the manifold passages, again helping low-end by lengthening the manifold passages.

But, alas, they only "work" on "wet" manifolds.

Anything built in the last 10 years is a "dry" manifold. That is, there's no fuel in the manifold; air only. Fuel is injected directly against the intake valve, where it spends almost no time at all in the manifold.

On a tbi chevy we gained 15hp on a dyno.... The injection was similar to a carb though. That is not a lot of power for the coin. The difference I noticed was throttle response.... This I think was because we raised the tbi 2 inches and took all the slack out of the linkage. Was it worth it did I gain mpgs? No! I gained more on that truck from gutting the cat. I would not buy another one.

If you really want one you can have the one that came one my truck when I bought it. As soon as I get around to pulling it anyway. Which will be pretty soon, I'm sick of thinking I have a vacuum leak when I hear that damn whistle.

thanks guys iwent on Helix site last night and it says their spacer is made for high rpm power, i then went to airade site and their spacer is made for low end power only. But if their really not worth it ill just keep my helix for now untill i find some sucker to buy it from me and put my factory plastic spacer back in the truck.
