Getting some last minute stuff done, before the truck heads into hibernation. Since I don't need the mockup engine, and it's junk, off to the scrapper it goes. I need to clean up the other one, just didn't get to it, before I put it in. So, one clean engine out, one filthy one back in.
Remember when I said the rear of the frame was too narrow? Well, after some checking and measuring, that is not the case. What the problem is, is some doofus made a modification to the rear of the frame, thinking he would strengthen it a bit. Turns out, he added metal where he shouldn't have! Here is what I'm talking about.....
So, I have to cut out a notch on each side, so the frame will sit in the spot at the back of the box, where it bolts on. Had to jack up the box, and put some supports between the frame and the box to make room to cut.
Now to make access to the rear box bolts. Used a hole saw to make two holes, then cut between them, and cleaned it up with a die grinder. Wanted them oval, so I had easy access with a wrench or socket.
Time to assemble the tailgate, and get it mounted. New handle, still have to get the new latches, I'll put those on later. I have new hinges from DC, but, I'm not that happy with them, may get a different set later.
Since I had no help today, had to load her up myself. But, with the help of my F-250, wasn’t a big deal. Lined her up with the trailer, strapped it to the -250, and pulled her right up.
