depends on how early of a 77 it is based on the serial #. Halfway through 77 or so they switched from the early style to the 78/79 style

Everything in the body and frame is the same. Only options make real differences (A/C, PS, PB, etc.).

BTW- long bed, straight, rust free...for $300...I hate you LOL

If the tailgate is also straight and rust free, please don't say so. I might hurl.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but didn't they change the spread of the frame rails mid year 77, if so this could effect mounting placement for rad support, cab, and bed?

i know with my truck which is a '79 F-150 reg cab *originally a long box, but the previous owner put it on a '76 F-100 short box frame in the late 90s, but now its more a '77 than a '79

as of now, i got the '79 Cab sitting on a '77 F-150 4x4 swb frame and from what i have seen the '79 cab fit nicely on the '77 frame, not sure if the frame is a late '77? but the box and the cab and the '76 front clip/grille fit right onto the '77 F-150 swb 4x4 frame with no problems,

so that's my take on all of this, also the change of spread of the frame rails is only in the rear from what i understand, thus box bolt location will be off, and from what i understand all reg cabs will fit on all reg cab frames no matter the size or year, but the beds will differ, thus drilling new holes in the box may be needed when swapping boxes around,

Thanks for the clarification, that sounds like what I was thinking of. I knew there were different brackets for the bumpers because of some frame rail differences.

no problemo, i was lucky with my truck, no problems, and no drilling on the bed for new holes, which was nice,

This only pertains to 1977 F250 4WD's (High Boys). It has nothing to do with any other 1977 F100/350.

The last High Boy was assembled before serial number Y20,001 which was roughly midyear 1977.

High Boy rear frame rails are 33 1/2" apart. 2WD's and other 4WD's rear frame rails are 37 1/2" apart.

All 1977 F100/350's look basically the same. In fact, excepting the left Styleside quarter panels, all the exterior sheet metal is the same 1973/77.

Styleside left quarter panels: 1973/76's have exposed fuel caps, 1977/79's have fuel doors.

I went and got the 1973 longbed today.I end up getting it for $100.00.it is straight with no rust.runs good so it will make a good parts truck.and yes it does have a good tailgate.

100.00... running... I could have done without hearing that, I'm happy for you but it makes me sick. Why cant I find a good running parts truck for 100.00?

what about the grill difference from the 73-77 and the 78-79? I have a 76 350 with the round headlights, but I'm thinking about doing a 78-79 grill with the square headlights. If the sheet metal is all the same I would imagine the shape of the grill shell is the same also. Any one ever do this or have experience with it? And a $100 for a no rust truck! You better go buy a lotto ticket right away!
