Engine Swap for 1954 F100

Has a shot, 1st generation 239 motor. Need to get advice on the best replacement motor that will require the least modification, drop in, to try first. Interested in experience with doing this, manuals, guides, etc. Possible motors that would require modification and links to doing it that way would be the second option. Will be updating to 12v as well.

I think I'm starting a new thread now!

Welcome.

I believe at this point almost every motor has been put into these trucks. As long as you understand 'drop in' is a relative term. Whatever you go with you will need to purchase universal motor and trans mounts or fab your own. I would recommend a V8 of your choice, if you are most familiar with Ford or Chevy engines or even Dodge if thats your background. Go with what you know as that will be easiest in the long run.

Thanks for that. We have a lead locally on a 292, 302 and 312. Hard to track down anyone that has them, even. Have talked to someone in Idaho about the ones they have. Any ideas on newbies finding how-to guidelines for doing this and thinking ahead to completing this process?

Check on this page: http://www.vassh.com/engine.html

There are some photos of my original 302/C4. I'm now running a 351W/AOD and only had to move the tranny mount.

Here's some 'How to' I used: http://www.classicperform.com/tech_a...ine-Mounts.htm

Check out this page as well: http://www.vassh.com/FAQ.html

And the 'search' on this forum is invaluable. You came to the right place.

Wow! Thanks for all that useful information. Love the close up shots of your project, too.

Thanks for your help.
