The engine will ping if you have an upper intake manifold leak. Common problem. It pings because it is always running leaner than the computer expects. Lean mixtures like to detonate.
Ok, just following up. These plugs are still working great. I don't think they perform any better than the double platinum, but they might last longer, or operate in the sweet spot longer.
