66 Ford door inside door handles, Safety on shift.
On a 66 Ford f100 custom cab, the inside door handles. Are they installed in the up or down position? Also my truck has no arm rest. Did some of the Fords have arm rests?
My auto trans has no safety on the shift. I was told by the previous owner it would start in any position on the shifter. Is there a safety lockout?
Thanks for any help

My auto trans has no safety on the shift. I was told by the previous owner it would start in any position on the shifter. Not supposed to!
Is there a safety lockout? Yes, see Lever below.

Handle faces downwards, it's pressed forward to lock the door from the inside.
Custom Cabs came with one armrest on the left door, the right armrest was an option (Standard Cabs came without armrests).
These same armrests were used in 1959 Ford Galaxie/Fairlanes, and on 1960/63 Falcon/Comets and have been reproduced.
IF this is a 1965/66 F100/350 with a 352 V8 engine, there's a neutral safety switch (NSS) mounted on the top of steering column's mast jacket (cover), towards the bottom of the column. *
The NSS is controlled by the NSS Transmission Control Selector Lever (DOTZ7B097B), which fits thru a hole in the mast jacket, then snaps onto the shift tube.
This spring steel lever looks like this: --{
The tip of this lever fits into the NSS and is notorious for snapping off.
This lever also loses tensile strength and then it falls off the shift tube.
If the lever is intact (that'll be amazing in itself!), the problem prolly lies with the NSS itself.
DOTZ7B097B .. NSS Selector Lever / DOTZ7B097B replaced: DOTZ7B097A & C5TZ7B097A / Fits: 1965/66 F100/350 352 only / 1967/77 ALL F100/350's / Obsolete
PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has 18 = 888-727-0418.
GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 12 = 800-543- 4959.
----------------------------------------------------------
C5TZ7A247A .. NSS (Motorcraft SW436) / Fits: 1965/66 F100/350 352 / Obsolete
GREEN SALES CO. has 15.
MILLER OBSOLETE PARTS in Binghamton NY has SEVEN = 888-727-0418.
JST AUTOMOTIVE in Lebanon TN has FOUR = 615-443-3086.
----------------------------------------------------------
* 1965/66 F100/350's with 240/300 I-6's with C4's have the NSS mounted on the transmission, so...there is no lever.
