I need some ac help

I turn my ac *** to ac and it only blows out the defrost. And when I turn the *** to floor, dash or floor-defrost it all blows out the defrost.....I looked behind the glove box and when I turn the *** the actuator that controls the flap does not move..I moved the actuator by hand and all it does is switch from defrost to floor and when I let go it goes back to defrost.

Any ideas????

Eric

Your vacuum system. It will default to defrost when there is a problem. Check under the hood at your canister and where all the hoses connect. There are a few t's that could come apart.

Check your 4wd, i think the auto switch is related to that vacuum problem. If the auto-locking hubs don't engage, that may be it.

Ok thanks everyone. I checked for leaks and could not find any. with the engine running and the ac on I turn the 4 wheel *** to 4 high and the air started to come from the dash vents...And when I turned it back to 2 wheel it stayed blowing out the vents. But when I turned the ac off and then back on it came out the defrost again.

So any ideas what I need to do now????

To add to the bizarre AC thread...

My AC too has been coming out the defrost for a few months. Once or twice it would slowly come out the vents, sometimes it blew half/half. But a few weeks ago it started to work as normal. There was a weeks or so of a "fluttering" type sound when it switched over.

Everything seems to be working normal now. But I'd like to find out why, and if possible, fix it.

How do you tell for sure if the auto-locking hubs engage or not. It goes into 4WD, and the light works. I did have a time recently that I know the front tires were spinning.

Got a call back from Service today, TSB 05-14-4 is what he stated they looked at to fix the problem.

Going to replace the vacuum pump, part no. 6C3z-2A451-BA. Cost to repair $345.00.

These don't seem to fail often. I would verify the pump is in fact broken and not just a leak in the system. stealerships are more desperate than ever before - don't trust them....

Sounds like you have a leak in the auto-hub system. Start at vac lines to hubs, replace hose as necessary. Then follow those lines to pass-side fender well (engine compartment). There is a solenoid valve for hubs near vac pump.

I doubt your hubs actually locked in 4wd. If you can spin the front driveshaft or either axleshaft w/trans in neutral - hubs not locked. You can also jack one front wheel at a time and if tire spins while in 4wd - not locked...

After verifying vac IS going to hubs, check hubs following these directions:

Ok......I remember being able to spin the front drive shaft when the 4 wheel drive is turned off....And now it locked in but the *** id in 2 wheel.Would the solenoid valve be the problem???The vac pump is running all the time.

If the driveshaft will not spin in 2wd, then hub(s) may be stuck in locked position. You can pull vac line and squirt a little DuraLube, etc in the hole and re-attach vac lines, then run down straight stretch of hwy at 45-50mph and switch in and out of 4wd a few times. If this doesn't help, do the maintenance described on Guzzle's site.

Pump running all the time likely indicates a leak. Pretty sure mine only runs for a minute or so every once in a while.

Its possible there is a leak elsewhere in your vac system causing hubs not to lock/unlock correctly.

The other common 4wd issue is the relays. These are in little boxes near underhood fuse box. This is usually where to look if 4wd lite on dash doesn't respond to 4wd switch/****...

Thanks skyskijason. I found the leak. It was the solenoid valve. The hubs seem to still be locked in.Would the relay be part of why they are still locked?

Thanks again and here is a pic.
