Update: Back-Up Camera Install finished

A few weeks back, I installed and mounted the viewscreen for my back-up camera.

A couple weeks ago, while up in Oregon for the Riffraff Performance Tech Day, along with some help from Peter (Duck Fan), I finished wiring up and installing the rest of the system.

I figured I'd share the install with the rest of you guys.

Here is the monitor installed on the trans tunnel floorboard.

In the above picture, next to the brake controller, you can see a plastic knockout where Ford places the power pedal switch.

I decided I didn't want to wire the camera to the reverse lights, only powering it whenever I put the gearshift lever in reverse, so I installed a rocker switch there, powering the camera whenever I wanted, not just when it's in reverse.

Here's a picture with the dash popped off to access the wires to the pedal switch harness:

After getting power to the rocker switch, I ran the wire to the antenna down the frame of the truck and drilled a small hole under the drivers side door sill, placing a grommet in the hole, then placing the antenna in the void and hooking the wires to the module.

Here is everything all finished.

Great pics and congrats on the install!

I've had mine installed for about a month now but I just used it for the first time yesterday to hook up my trailer. I can barely see the top of the ball in my screen but I managed to nail it first try.

Thanks again to VaSheriff for hooking me up with the deal of the year so far!

Looks good.

I'm getting pretty good with mine. 9 out of 10 tries, the ball is dead under the hitch first try. That 1 other time, it's either too far or too short but at least it's straight on.

Oh, I think I'm going to just rewire mine to the parking light. That way the lights will act like the toggle switch you have and if I'm driving at night and don't want it on, I can just turn the monitor off. That way I have controll over it but still don't have to run a wire all the way from the dash to the rear. (Too lazy and too busy to do that.)

Saw those same camera systems at Sam's Club today in San Antonio for $79.99 and they had a bunch of them.

Nice install. I have one of those little rocker switches tho and the blue LED is pretty bright at night - at the correct amgle, it's actually blinding.

Back Up camera

I have just used the back up lights to turn on my camera. I just need it when I'm backing up.

That's where VA got them. His Sam's put 'em on sale, and he passed the savings on to us.

They were initially on sale for $41 bucks, but by the time I clicked on the thread, they had dropped down to $25 bucks.

I agree. Luckily the switch is at a good angle and doesn't bother me when activated.

Agreed, but I wanted to be able to turn it on when I wanted, and not be limited to when the gear selector was only in reverse.

Mounting screws?

Looks great!

I am getting ready to mount my monitor on the trans tunnel floorboard like you did. What type/size screws did you use?

Very nice, can't beat that value. Did you just drill and set those screws into the floor? Or were they self-tapping metal screws?

If they are the ones that came with the camera, they are self-tapping screws. That's what I used but I didn't paint mine black.
