I know this thread is probably older than my truck but I have been doing some research on the trucks AC issues. I looked at the chart and got my readings today from my gauges.

High Side is 295
Low Side is 34

Outside air is 95 degrees today.

recommended for this outside temperature is:
220 & 42

What do I need to do to get to these numbers. It gets hot as hell in TX and i need some cold AC.

I am no A/C expert by any means but it sounds like the system is overcharged. R134 unlike R12 systems can be overcharged so try letting some freon out. You may want to consider taking to a local shop they have recycling equipment which is better for the environment than just releasing into the atmosphere.

That is highly illegal. DO NOT do that. You need to have it taken to a shop to have the charge checked.

Trying hosing down the condenser, and make sure that the fan clutch is locking up with the A/C on - if it has an electronically controlled fan clutch.

There are no "electronically controlled fan clutches" in these things. We're kinda' "old school" in here.

Do you mean compressor clutch? There's an electro magnet that pulls a plate against the pulley on the AC compressor if that's what you're talking about.

He's cautioning about ensuring cooling air flow through the condenser. That would be fan.

Some vehicles have electric fans, albeit not ours, and if they didn't switch on for any reason would cause the problems noted.

Compressor clutches, as you know, are a completely different thing.
