HELP!! what block is this, Windsor or Cleveland??

I got a shortblock from a guy and it looks to be in great shape. never in a vehicle. He thinks it a 351W, but the paper tag said CLV and when i pulled the cam out of it, 351C was printed in yellow paint.... i matched up my Crance cam I bought for the windsor and they looked identicle, they were the same length and the rises were all going in the same direction. Please help. The block casting number is D4AE-6015-AA1 with 351WCP1 just in the valley where the intake would sit.

Does the block have the coolant passage for the thermostat in it seperate from the head/manifold? Does the front of the block require a just a plate to cover up the timing chain, or a cover that completely surrounds the timing chaing set? The 335 series engines that the cleveland and 351M/400 fall in have a coolant passage for the thermostat in the block not the manifold, and only require a flat piece of plate steel as a cover for the timing chain. If it is similar to the 302 about requiring a cast timing cover and the thermostat housing in the intake manifold then it falls in the windsor family.

Im not sure. Im at my parents using the internet right now and the blocks at my house... There is a hole in the vally where the intake would set, but im not sure if this is what your refering to as a coolant passage. Its just the block basically.

will the heads from a 351w fit on the cleveland? because if not, i can take my heads off my motor and see if they fit... it they do, ill know its a windsor. But if the heads are the same on both motors, doing this is pointless.

If it looks like this, it's a Windsor. This is my D4AE-6015-DA5 with 351WCP5 in the valley.

I guess I should have a little clearer, there would be two holes in the block one for the distributor and one for the thermostat housing.

It looks alot the pics above and i believe it doesnt have the hole for the thermostat. It doesnt have the plate for the water pump on it yet. i think i have to pull that from my other motor along with the thermostat housing. There is another small hole about 3/4" in diameter to the left of the hole wherre the distributor goes in. Its a lil further towards the top of the blok tho, not really next to it. any idea what thats for?

also, i have an oil pan for an 89 windsor and it didnt fit. where the oil pump is, the hump in the pan is on the other side. Are there different pans for 70-80s era 351's?

Sounds like the motor came out of a car, they were front sump while trucks had a rear sump. You just need to change the oil pickup and your pan will fit.

You mean a different oil pump?? Im not really sure what you mean here... The paperwork says it was for a carb '83 F350. if that matters at all.

Literally you need to take the oil pick up tube off, and use the oil pick for a rear sumped oil pan. If you have your old motor, it will have the appropriate oil pick up tube. You will also need the stud bolt on the main bearing bolt cap for the oil pick up tube support.
