Question Cummins 4bt in an Escape

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum. So, I'm a teen (17) and I drive an '02 escape. I want to start saving up to do mods. I was just watching vids on youtube of things like cummins 4bt Wranglers and Suburbans and other stuff. Well it came to me.....would it be possible to swap a 4bt Cummins engine into an escape? Of course it would need suspension upgrades and stuff, but could it be done? <!-- / message --><!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig -->

Escape has a transverse engine. There is almost no way you'll be able to fit a 4BT in an escape. You'd have to punch the firewall way out just to fit the engine, perhaps even quite a lift to even get the hood to be able to close. You would have to cut and reform much of the underbody to create a transmission tunnel big enough to fit a transmission that would be able to handle the 4BT torque. It probably wouldn't be long before the stock IRS let go either. Thats also another thing you could count on not having, 4WD/AWD unless you plan to re-engineer an entire front axle, and shoe horn a transferscase and front drive shaft in.

A 4BT would never also pass emissions in a 2002 vehicle.

You'd be looking at tens of thousands of dollars into this project, probably easily over 20 grand, and the likelyness of the vehicle ever working right is quite slim.

You would be much better off trying to do something to the factory engine, like a mild turbo setup

4BT swaps into Rangers / Bronco IIs is fairly common - for 4BT swaps that is.

there is a website called www.4btswaps.com that can offer a lot of assistance with a 4BT swap

my post was in reply to a 6bt in a ranger. It has been and can be done.

4bt is more common for obvious size reasons...
