Another "check" in the win column.....
Well, Friday Thompson Raceway had their annual Independence Day EVE Explosion. We(UMTR) were the headlining show along with Bob Motz Jet Kenworth. Over 80 stick cars between the two classes.
After 17 hrs at the track and the final at 2:30AM, the ol wagon pulled off another win. It was a very long day to say the least. I got home at 4:30am, then back up at 7am to start my list of things for Saturday.
Racing was VERY tight, as I myself had 3 rounds of dead on passes.
1st round: 11.406 on my 11.40 (flat out)
3rd round: 11.397 on my 11.39 (flat out). I was running my buddy('07 points champ) and he ran 11.214 on his 11.21 but I had .012 on the tree and took a .009 win stripe. TIGHT race to say the least.
I also ran the street stick car in a final run off for a jug of racing fuel. I ran 11.4301 on my 11.43 but I laxed on the tree and he kicked my butt.
Good day of racing, the stands were packed.

Is the Wagoon getting quicker? Or is it just my old age ? I thought not to long ago the you were running 60 or 70's ??
Are you gonna ever plan on a little more head work and intake work...and really put the beans to them ?? In the Big white rocery getter ? I can imagine the looks on some of there faces..Being put on the trailer by a Country Squire !! LMAO!!
Keep up the great riving Larry..you make us all proud !!
Oh BTW.. You dont happen to have or now who's got a cheap D3 or D4 block cheap do ya... I'd still like to have you do the machine work on one for me for the Pro-grams Caps! I dont know if you read that Old blues block cracked this past winter ..(my Bad) I busted a Rad hose this last fall and forgot to add to the mix for winter...and come early spring it looked like lake erie under the truck...and the 105 blocks cant be found here in Oakey land...if it aint a Chev or a Morparts forget it !!

I picked up a set of 17x8 Bullitt wheels like I have on the T-bird for my '66 428 Country Squire- looks like they should fit OK. Would be fun to convert it to a stick, but the parts for the 66-67 cars ain't cheap- I've had a couple people offer me three times what I paid for the car, for the grille assembly
There's this "less than nice" gal that races a big Chebby wagon at Sears Point that needs a little humbling- love to see her meet the Battlestar

I don't really try to chop the tree actually. Anything .02-.05 will get you rounds, usually. Pushing it hard, will get you red! With our group, best light previous round will get you the bye(if there is one). I got the bye into the final with a .045 light(other two guys had .05x and .06x lights). Good and consistent is all I shoot for, anything better is "luck" LOL!!
Russ, the car usually runs .40-50's for the most part. Quaker City is slow, so it goes 50-60's. It's gone 11.20 in perfect weather. Just put new tires on, plus a new set of 9way adj shocks out back so I'm working on getting the rear suspension in better form.
In the final run off, the clutch was slipping bad on the shifts, so I got it in the garage and checking plate height. Got enough runs on it that it might finally need some shim pulled? Will find out this week. Still need to turn it down a touch too, as still not driving through it in high gear. My clutch guy was set up at track this weekend and watching us run. Letting us know if things were working good or not and giving some suggestions. He even was getting me in the lights in later rounds as the track was getting torn up and the bald spot was growing. Not much light there, so it's hard to see to stage, so he would set me in. Definitely saw a difference in 60ft compared to earlier rounds. Sure he'll be glad to hear I won another one.
