I tore up the rear diff. in my truck.
turns out that a D60 can not take the power my motor makes.
I do a lot of towing with my 98 E350 V10 hauling scrap.
yesterday I went up the steepest hill we have around here with 18K behind me.
I gave the truck gas to the floor and held 55 all the way up.
when I got home and went from D to R to back the trailer in the axle made a nice, loud CLUNK sound. I crawled under and checked and I have about 1/8 turn of slop in the diff now.
I am thinking of putting a D70 or D80 under it so it will not happen again.
Why the hell would ford put a V10 and a 9.75" ring gear together?

Because not everybody is interested in abusing their vehicles. I have no idea what
the rated towing capacity of a 1998 one-ton van is but I suspect it's something
less than what you put it through. I would think that optional Towing packages
would include upgraded components to handle such abuse.

it has the towing package, and is rated for 10,000 gvwr, 20k combined towing.
I was 2k pounds under the rating and have never gone over it.

well i guess we're keepin thissone(its a word just trust me)so i'll throw in my 4 cents....
good news boys!
the olds i bought (paid a grand total of 517$ for it as of right now) is gettin out of ches's shop tommrow and then i'll be able to focus more on gettin my truck exactly how it want it.. IE no more 'i dont want to do that because i've got to drive to work tonight and i dont know if i can get it back togeather!"
i also finnally solved that damn squeaking noise comming from the back, the spare tyre (vintage 1985) and rack had rattled/rusted loose so i grinded it off, that was a ball! and no more squeak!
now for the bad news.....
the lady's ******* ****** ****** peice of **** 3000gt is in the ******* shop again.... i wanna sell that car so ******* bad its not even funny
FYI we just dropped 1500 into the transmission, right after she totaled it, right after the oil pressure had dropped to 20PSI
and now just to be corny, the uguly....

i arrived to work today to learn i'd be running my shift with the owner of the company, which is good because he's a great guy and we get along great! the problem is HE dosent show up for work, so i have the solo a show of 500 people (a big deal) right up untill the shoot!(the last second i could have possibly done everything at once)
