Can I run a Quadrajet?

Hi,

I was checking my fuel economy (1986 F-250, C-6, 351, 3.54 gears) and found I am getting 10 mpg. I am guessing my Holley is in need of a rebuild. I have had a lot of experience with GM's. I have run Holleys, Carters, Edelbrocks, and Quadrajets. I like the Quadrajets the most by far. I was wondering how hard it would be to mount a Quadrajet onto the engine, and what it would entail? Has anyone else done this before?

Thanks,

Nick

As long as your intake has the spread bore pattern and you can physically bolt it on why not?

You'd have some rigging to do on the throttle cable and kick down linkage though.

You can buy one of those adapters and install it on a square bore manifold. People usually use the adapter to mount a holley on a spreadbore GM, but you can flip them over and use them other way. Just make sure the rear butterflies will open all the way.

you can buy a bolt on ball to snap on the throttle cable, but you will have to fab something up for the kickdown for your c6.

You are putting a totally different carb on your engine. It's not going to bolt on and run without some fiddling, and your emissions system is probably not going to hook up and run properly. In other words, the EGR might be out the window along with the other emissions components.

Do I have any other economical options in regards to carbs - besides rebuild the one I have (which I will if I have to). I am just not too big on Holleys....... I have had the best experiences with the Quadrajets.

Thanks

i put an Edelbrock carb on mine in the past.i put the adapter plate over the egr and have had no problems.I've used quadrabogs on my fords when cash was short in the past and have worked quite well.I'm actually an Edelbrock carb fan,but have used the other brands as well.

it work good great.just make sure the cubic inches of the engines are close that way it shouldn't run to rich or lean.

Thanks guys, sorry about the questions, I am a little gun shy when it comes to Holleys. I do not trust them too much. I ended up ordering a rebuild kit for the Holley and will try that first. I was curious, this has the sealed idle mixture screws. How can I bypass that, and make them adjustable again?

the instructions will say.they are plastic/metal covers and are pressed in.they come out easy.just leave the cap or covers off when your done.use a baking pan to put your parts in.that way you won't loose anything.
