hi all, i have a 97 f250 heavy dudy 5.8L (old body style) with the 8 lug pattern. my question is, is there a rear drum to disc conversion kit for my truck? cant seem to find one and its almost time to do the rear brake, and would hate to use drums again!

 

i think that summit racing has one i seen on there web site with every thing needed to do the job i was thinking about doing that to my 93 f150

 

I seen a kit on the net... it used eldorado single piston calipers and rotors off of some other car... looked way to small and cheesy for my liking...

 

looked alright to me but am not sure whether its safe

Four Wheeler did an article on this a while back, when it comes time for me, im gonna go w/ the kit they used:

I know they did theirs on an 89, but it will all work on your 97

 

Might anyone know the thickness of the caliper mounting plates?

 

the kit used in the four wheeler article is the same one I posted a link too...dont know if they give the specs of the mounting plate though...

still the only kit i could find, little pricy at 750 or so, kinda sceptical about using old cadillac eldarado calipers, but i am sure its still 5x better than the crappy drums

 

What I want to know is why they didn't design a kit around Ford truck calipers and rotors, so it'd have the same parts front and rear.

 

clearance issues maybe? if you look at the kit it just looks like swiss cheese flat stock. looks like it calliper bracket can be used with other kits. could prob. make one yourself if you could cut that thick of flat stock?

 

You'd probably have to use the bolt-on calipers from whenever they switched from the pins, but I don't see why they couldn't cram it in there. If I had a plasma cutter, I've got the stock. Not going to burn up a hundred Sawzall blades cutting out brackets just to try it.

 

hmmm know anyone with a band saw? dont think my small carpenters one would handle it(even if i could find a metal blade for it)
