Radio replacement 1985 F150

Well, the boys radio doesnt change stations, old manual **** type, and he wants to be able to play MP3s

What I have when I take it apart appears to be a 4 inch by 1 and 7/8 inch hole for the face of the radio, two ***** about 6 and 3/4 inches apart.

there is a metal bracket behind the bezel that fits this in, though the bezel is just an open square hole and the blank space is filled by the bracket with the radio in it.

I am thinking I either need to find a radio that has the posts and will mount in the existing bracket or I can mount a DIN type radio in this, but would have to cut the hole in the metal mounting bracket bigger to do so.

Any advice would be appreciated.

You can mount an aftermarket DIN unit right in the bezel (if you have the later bezel) and use a strap from behind to help support it.

You can remove the glove box liner or dash pad to gain access to the rear for the strap.

Bezel is a big open square, 7 in. by 2.25 in. like the open ones you have for sale in the sale/trade thread. The single DIN faceplate on the existing radio is not tall enough to cover the hole, but it is wide enough.

Thanks for the info on the strap, we used to get those with the mounting kits in the old days.

Will have to figure out how to strap it in tight since the boy likes to run the trails around here and I figure there is no way the plastic faceplate is gonna hold without cracking if there is no additional support.

Kewl,

Thanks, I am going to hit best buy today and see if I can find a radio and a couple 6.6 inch speakers and get some sound in his truck.

Thanks again.

Got the radio in, but got something hooked up wrong or did not get a good connection. Radio works fine except it wont remember the preset stations. Figure I got the constant power wire hooked to non-constant power or did not get a good connection. I used a meter to check for power when we hooked her up, and the radio does not stay on when the ignition is off. Must have a bad connection is all I can figure. going to tear the dash off again and see what we screwed up.
