there's a light in there? i had no idea? probably has to do with the fact i don't smoke,,,,, but i had no idea there was a ash tray light, i will check mine the next time i am out at the truck (which will be tomorrow) i bet someone will come a running with the answer soon enough, how does it work? does it come on with the dash lights? or does it turn on when the tray is opened? i also need to work out a glove box light for my truck, as far as i can see, i don't see any wires for a light in the glove box, but then again the previous owner has done some work...... but i will check for both, and i would be interested as well on what bulb the ash tray uses (in case mine doesn't have one) the ashtray in my truck is nothing more than a place to store change and odds and ends, but i did look at the cool cup holder you can slide into the ash tray, i think that is pretty cool, heck i might make my own cup holder to slide into there?
also i would guess its the same size of bulb the dash uses in the gauge cluster???? also a LED bulb may be a nice option for the ash tray???

Mine was dangling loose behind the dash. It looks like it attaches to the top of the ashtray frame. The metal cover on the bulb has a pinhole to only let a small amount of light out.

1891 = 1.9 Candle Power / Single Filament Bulb.
It doesn't snap in, because it has two "****" on it...one on either side...so, it twists in.
The 1973/79 FORD LIGHT TRUCK PARTS CATALOG lists the 1892 bulb for the ash tray.

(sigh) No bulbs from this era "snap in."
Instrument panel, taillight, parking lamp...whatever...bulbs back then all have the two **** on them, so they ALL twist in.
Some of the **** are directly opposite each other, some are offset.
On today's modern piles...the bulbs usually just push in.
Wyoming: The Grand Tetons were named by a French Explorer.
Teton is the French word for....****!
btw: 's to the hobby that buy these old rolling piles of misery all seem to make the same mistake of thinking they are just like the new rolling piles of misery parked in their driveways.
They ain't! Things were much different back then.
