Smile Finally..

Well, after months of off and on looking/learning...and the last few weeks of more intense looking....

We have agreed to purchase new to me F-250 Super Duty King Ranch Crew Cab. I want to thank the numerous people who have answered questions and who have contributed to the many posts on FTE that helped me learn. (especially access to OASIS reports).

The sweetest part of this truck is the fact that it is the CLEANEST used vehicle I've ever been in. Because of that, my wife "bonded" instantly...she was sold right from when we pulled up to see the vehicle. She new this truck had been loved and cared for ;-) The KR leather was in awesome shape, even smelled good. Everything inside was immaculate. The exterior was spotless.

Here are the options

2006 F-250 Super Duty Crew Cab, Oxford White Exterior
  • King Ranch
  • Short Box
  • 6.0L PSD
  • 13,466 miles (low, so almost 4 months left on factory warranty).
  • Power Moonroof
  • 3.73 *regular* axle
  • Reverse sensing aid
  • Heavy duty service suspension
  • Trailer Hitch
  • Tow Command System (w/brake controller, tow mirrors)
  • Electronic Shift on the Fly
  • Lighted Running boards,
  • SCT Tuner
  • 20" Eagle alloy wheels
  • Toyo 305/55/r20 Open Country A/T Tires
  • Husky Liner Floor Mats
  • Bed Mat
  • clean oasis...only a tire replaced, and running boards replaced...nothing powertrain related.
  • 2" leveler kit in front
  • 1.5" lift in rear
Negotiating the original 18" OEM wheels with original tires on them as a second set. Think it's worth it?

What? Getting the wheels or getting the truck?

If the wheels; I'd say "yeah"! Get 'em. You could use them in the winter or sell them later.

If the truck; I dunno...you didn't post the price.

Pretty truck. I think stock wheels look much better than what's available aftermarket, so yes.

That's a really nice truck. I'd agree with ReAX on the wheels as well.

nice truck! only thing was the open rear end vs limited slip. Which seems odd since it is a FX4.

This is a great example of exhibiting patience to find the right Super Duty truck... one in excellent condition and low miles. Well done!

Depending on what they're asking, hell yeah I'd go for it!

You still have the option of going to a Ford dealer and picking up their Dieselcare ESP (6 or 7years and 200K) for it so if something goes wrong, you're covered. The factory engine warranty is 5 years/100K, but you still have 2 years and long way to go before you hit 100K.

You can always get a Limited Slip put in the front and rear at some point. But you're getting a sweet deal, I say go for it...

Thanks! ;-) having information and advice is powerful, and I relied on FTE and it's members heavily...so I'm very thankful for that.

re: stock wheels. Yes, I like the stock 18" (I did inspect them, rubber is still new on them) and assuming they aren't over priced, I'll buy those. I may swap them out right away.

re: FX4 Limited slip. The OASIS doesn't reflect that this is a FX4 model, the only hint at that is the graphic on the side. I should investigate that further, because if that is an error in OASIS, I'd be happy to see see shocks, skid plates, and the Limited Slip axle. (at least I know there are plenty of good aftermarket Limited Slip axles I could go for ;-) )

re: price. Well, the price asked and agreed to is roughly 5-10% below 3 pricing tools I generally consult (KBB, Nada, my local bank. Even if those tools are a little high, I'm still happy with the price because compared to the various other used vehicles I've looked at....this one was truly worth every dollar (to me) ;-)

Since i have the lariet edition with now FX4, I just ordered the skid plates myself so even that is not a big deal to put on later.

You can also check your axle code on the VIN sticker. If I remember correctly, 3L is 3.73LS and 37 is open diff 3.73.

hmm... $600 for the original 18" rims and stock tires (Con Trac?? I think). They are virtually unused tires.

Even though it is another $600...I'm inclined to take 'em since I could easily pay that much for 4 tires alone.

Yeap... that's a no brainer! I would definitely buy them.

Actually, it should be either on the side of the door or on the door jamb. It'll have the VIN on it with other information. Toward the bottom of it, there will be some different blocks containing information and one of these toward the bottom right corner will be the axle code.
