F150-Bronco. ?????
I have a 90 f150(4x4)- Can i take the engine(3oo/6{manual}) and put it in a 87/bronco(351/auto)?http://medford.craigslist.org/cto/1146993297.html this is the truck.
How hard would this be? I dont want to drive the 351 in the Bronco, so I thought I could just put the 300/6 on the auto trans, instead of having to change the truck from auto to manuel. Also how hard would it be to switch from auto to manuel? I would like to make the bronco manuel. In my pickup I want to put the 351. can the engine possibly Go on the 300/6 trany? Or it all this swaping motors a bad idea? will the 300/6 get good gas mileage on a auto tranny? tell me what you would do! My truck recently got wrecked and i need new body, but the engine is still good so that is why I want the bronco. Throw some Ideas at me!

In 87-88 the auto is most likely either a C6 or an AOD (the latter being the four three speed + overdrive and the C6 the three speed).

Your biggest issue when swapping them in is the motor mount location/engine bracing. But if you have the donor truck, all the parts should be right there. The other issue you may run into is driveline length if you switch transmissions due to transmission and bronco/f150 length differences. Then it's just swapping computers and wiring harnesses.
It's definitely doable and has been done before. It's not like putting a 300 into a toyota landcruiser or something, the Bronco came with the 300 standard.

Like has been said, it is possible to put the 90 drive train into the 87 bronco.
You are in luck though as you have the parts truck to help in combining with the 87 bronco to get the drivetrain that you want in one truck. Keep in mind that you will have to scrounge or make the rear driveshaft for the bronco if you go with the manual set up. The front will work as the bronco and F-150 share the same drivetrain compenents with some minor but important differences.

I'm swapping a 300 in place of a 302 right now. The important things to get from the donor with the 300 are the plates that hold the motor mounts for the 300. They bolt to the front frame crossmember and give you the proper location to mount the motor mounts for the 300. The frame crossmember already has the necessary holes for mounting the plates because the 300 was available and could have been the engine that went into any Bronco or F-150 during both model years in question. I'll see if I can get a couple photos of the plates I am referring to and post them.

I think it is totally doable since you have a complete donor truck you can get every thing you need except the rear drive shaft which if you can't find one you can get a new one from Jeff Bronco Graveyard. I had an 89 Bronco with a 300 and a 5spd and it 18mpg and would sometimes get into the low 20s, I think it is a good swap. The wiring might be a pain but you should have every thing you need between both trucks.

I did the opposite of your swap, put a 351w in and took a 300 out. Looks like the good folks on this site have given you the right info regarding the transmissions, motor mount locations, etc. Wish I had known about FTE when I did my swap! My swap was C6 auto to C6 auto and the 351 doesn't use that much more gas than the 300 did. The 300 got a solid 12-13 no matter what and the 351 is getting 11-12. I think the key to better gas mileage is going to be your manual transmission.
