How to change plugs on '07 150 w/ 4.6?

I am no stranger to turning wrenches and yet it looks kinda scary to change the plugs on my truck.

What is that silver rail over the tops of the plug caps? Can I remove it? It looks like i have to take it off to remove those big round black caps (i'm assuming the plugs are under those?

Can someone get me pointed in the right direction please?

Thanks in advance!!

I don't have a 4.6 in my 07, but I did look in my Ford service manual. That silver rail you're refering to is the fuel rail. I would try to see if you can remove your COPs (coil on plugs) (or those black things) without removing the rail.

Make sure you use compressed air to blow off the tops of the spark plug boots and while your there do the same to the ports the fuel injectors go into. Just in case you have to pull the rail with the injectors. That'll keep the dust and crap that's built up from getting inside.

With the 4.6 you don't have any special instructions on how to remove the plugs like we do with the 5.4. I will say, to make things a bit easier, from an access perspective. Disconnect your battery and remove the PCM and bracket from the firewall will give you a good amount of extra working room.

I did the plugs in my 07 a few weeks back and I'm glad I removed stuff to make things easier.

If you do end up needing to pull the fuel rails, I would suggest you have a set of injector orings handy, just in case you have one that gets damaged. The part number should be CM-4717, your local Ford parts guy can confirm this and get you a bag of 10.

Hope this helps.

I took a black cap off and left the fuel rail on to see if i could and i could but then the plugs are like at the bottom of a 12" hole on a slight angle. Dumbest thing I've ever seen.
I'm gonna let the dealer fleece me, i mean service the plugs.
I tell all yall right now, this is the last ford truck i buy. Next one is gonna be a Nissan. The local nissan dealer give you a loaner vehicle when you go in for servicing, if they break something on your truck while its getting fixed they pay for it and not you. Their weatherstripping, paint AND chrome lasts much longer then the one year i've gotten out of mine.

I've been a blue oval guy my whole life but they have made me pay too much for poor quality for too long.
