79 to 93 Runing gear swap

I have the running gear from a 79 F-150 4x4 (Dana 44, 9 inch, NP 205) That I want to put into my 93 4x4 and the question I have is will the 9" rear bolt straight onto my springs, or will I have to modify it? I'm going to rebuild all the pieces then do 1 big swap when the engine gets rebuilt. Any other helpful advice is appreciated. No, another truck isn't an option, It's paid for.

The problem with swapping in the 9" will be the fact that it will not have the provisions for the speed sensor that you have in your 8.8". Aside from that, with some fabrication, it could be made to work. Personally, I would sell the 9" and by a 10.25" full-floater out of a '94-'97 F250HD or F350. It will swap in easier than the 9", it has a provision for the speed sensor, and its a hell of a lot stronger.

I would swap that Dana 44 under the front end of your truck in a heartbeat. If you do a search you will find that several have done or are currently working on a similar swap.

As for the NP205, I don't think its advantages would be worth the hassle of getting it in the truck. Just keep the 1356.

By selling the 9" and the NP205 you could probably get yourself a nice 10.25" from a junkyard.

Just my 2 cents, Good luck!
