That sounds right.

I am searching my memory.....................

Nope, I have never heard anyone say "I'm looking for a '47 Mercury convertible in really, really bad shape!"

Not to say it couldn't make a cool car with about fifty thousand dollars worth of work.

I suppose I was mistaken. NADA shows it to be a "Mercury 76 2 DR Convertible." Low retail (restorable, but drivable) $17,600, Average retail (daily driver, but not "Show car") $25,400, and High retail (show car condition, fully restored, not museum piece, that is driven, not trailered) $44,000. It's a fairly intact shell, that could probably be a perfect "resto-mod" candidate. It has a full frame, and even if the floor is rotted out, it could still be built into a nice daily driver, even a nice showable, and could probably be done on under $20,000, assuming the work is done by the owner, and it needs EVERYTHING.

That being said, I would judge it like everything else. Start at 10% of it's lowest KNOWN value. In this case, $1760 would be my first offer, if it had a title. I would not be willing to go over $2600, assuming it had a clear title, or a title could be easily obtained, and it wasn't so overly stripped that copies of items couldn't even be made. With a CNC mill (we had one in my high school shop class) even the trim pieces could be made from a piece of aluminum.

You need to start posting locations with all these finds. If I at least knew what town they were in, I could figure out how to get there, and make them all mine.

No hurry, I still haven't finished the frame mods yet. Take care of your wife, and I hope everything works out OK.
Don.
